Our Guardianship Program
From time to time, we may be looking for a home for one of our future program dogs. Guardian Homes are a great opportunity for people who want a puppy or adult dog but without the initial cost. We use guardian homes so that we can further our breeding program without having too many dogs in our own home. Guardianships enable breeding dogs to live with the same family from puppy through adulthood while they are participating in our program. They are loved and cared for by the same family they will be living with when they retire. This is an alternative to being re-homed upon retirement and tends to be easier on the dog, and works out very well for family bonding, too. It's a win/win situation!
Guardians must not have any other intact dogs for the entire duration of the guardian contract (spayed or neutered pets are fine). Guardian homes are responsible for taking their dog to the vet and keep up basic care and training for the dog. We, as the breeder, will provide all genetic testing, OFA certifications and ultrasounds or x-rays needed for pregnancies or any pregnancy/breeding related issues.
Female guardian dogs are usually under contract for 3-4 litters. We usually will breed them back to back so they may retire early, unless our vet recommends differently or timing doesn't work out for us. The contract may be shortened if we decide no more litters are desired from the girl. Guardians of females are required to alert us to when their girl is coming into season, and make her available for the breeding process.
All guardian moms are required to be fed the same food as we feed to maintain both nutrition and consistency for when they spend time at our home.
Male dogs are contracted for a period of time usually around 5 years rather than a number of litters. Guardians of male dogs must have the boy available as needed for natural breedings, or for semen collection by a reproductive vet.
Guardian homes need to be within two hours driving time from us and stay in contact with us regularly until retirement.
